Knee-highs or over-the-knee socks - what's the difference and how to style them?

Among other things, we are increasingly opting for decorative tights with various patterns that will liven up our look or add elegance to it. Knee-highs and over-the-knee socks are also becoming more and more popular. Such elements work perfectly with short skirts and dresses. What do they best match and for what occasions should you wear them? What exactly is the difference between knee-highs and over-the-knee socks? Check out the latest trends and the basic distinctions between these two items.
Knee-highs versus over-the-knee socks
As their names suggest, knee-highs differ from over-the-knee socks primarily in length. Of course, you can find various types on the market, so they may have other differences. For example, these may concern the material they are made from or the decorative elements used in production. However, the most important difference between these two items is their length.
Knee-highs should end below our knees. Over-the-knee socks can reach slightly above them, but longer ones, extending even a few centimeters beyond the knee, are also available.
Another very important difference is the intended use of selected knee-highs and over-the-knee socks. The former are recommended, for example, for trousers when we want to wear less covering shoes. They will work great with jeans, as well as more elegant trousers, such as cigarette pants. We can also reach for them when we intend to wear ballerinas, espadrilles, creepers, oxfords, and other similar footwear. Interestingly, they also fit skirts, especially flared ones, if we want to achieve an "Asian girl" type of outfit. Asian style fashion is popular especially among young women. It is worth choosing wool knee-highs if we want a more girlish and "sweet" look, combined with a mini skirt.
Over-the-knee socks, on the other hand, best match dresses and skirts. We always put them on top of tights, making them a great choice for winter. This way, we can provide the body with adequate warmth and protection against frost. Our legs are warmed not only by tights but also by an additional layer of material. Moreover, over-the-knee socks can completely change a look and make us stand out from the crowd.
How to choose good quality knee-highs and over-the-knee socks?
- Length and type of styling. It is important what effect we want to achieve by creating our outfit. For girlish styles, we can choose both knee-highs and over-the-knee socks up to one-third of the thigh. They are especially recommended for mini skirts. The former will also be suitable when wearing trousers with heels and wanting to avoid chafing. In such cases, it is worth opting for thin knee-highs.
- Material. It is best to choose natural fabrics. They will not only allow the skin to breathe but also provide protection against the cold. This is especially important when wearing them during frosts or a cool and windy autumn. For winter, wool over-the-knee socks will be an excellent choice.
- Texture. Depending on the styling, we can choose between smooth or patterned over-the-knee socks and knee-highs. If we are wearing understated clothing, it is worth enlivening the look and giving it a more interesting character. In such cases, patterned over-the-knee socks are recommended, which go perfectly with boots, as well as heeled ankle boots.
- Color. The color, which we match to our styling, is also important. As with the texture, in this case, we also choose it depending on whether we have plain and understated clothes or more patterned ones. In the latter case, black over-the-knee socks will be excellent. For slightly more "calm" outfits, we can liven them up with colors, choosing pink or even red over-the-knee socks.
Non-constricting and anti-varicose knee-highs
We also offer other types of knee-highs that have a slightly different purpose than purely decorative ones. Anti-varicose knee-highs are extremely popular. They are primarily recommended for women who often stand or walk a lot during the day. Such a product will help prevent the feeling of excessive leg fatigue. Additionally, they will protect against swelling of the feet and ankles. Anti-varicose knee-highs have special compression zones that ensure proper blood circulation and prevent swelling.
Non-constricting knee-highs have a similar application. This item causes no discomfort even when worn for many hours. Additionally, some models are enhanced with a massage effect. This is great relaxation for tired legs when you are on the move all day. Non-constricting knee-highs are perfect for formal styles. Therefore, they are eagerly chosen for office work, business meetings, or slightly more formal occasions. Both plain and patterned compression knee-highs are available. The latter will help create an elegant, yet interesting and distinctive style for classy women.
