How to do a hybrid pedicure yourself?

Hybrid pedicure – durability for several weeks

One of the beauty treatments that keeps many women up at night is pedicure, which means painting toenails. I never liked it either: a professional pedicure treatment in a beauty salon costs several dozen zlotys, painting nails on your own is tiring, and most importantly: the polish chips quickly and the feet look unaesthetic.

However, I finally found a way to make my toenails look beautiful for a long time: hybrid pedicure! It works well in summer, when we like to show off our feet, but it's also worth wearing it on colder days, when we wear tights without toes with open-toed shoes. A few months ago I invested in a hybrid pedicure kit, which contained all the necessary elements to perform this treatment. There was a small LED lamp (a so-called bridge), lint-free cotton pads, cuticle pushers, a base coat, hybrid nail polishes in several colors, a top coat, and also cuticle oil. The kit also included liquids that are necessary for performing and removing hybrid pedicure: cleaner and acetone. I have tested the entire kit several times, so today I can tell you how to do hybrid nails (including on your feet) step by step.

How to do hybrid nails? Start by preparing the nail plate

If you are just starting your adventure with hybrid nail polishes, it is worth buying foam separators that are placed between your toes – they facilitate work and minimize the risk of getting nail polish on the skin around the nail. However, first you need to prepare the nail plate for hybrid pedicure – so that snags or unevenness of the nail do not catch on socks or women's tights while walking and so that the hybrid pedicure looks aesthetic.

How to prepare the nail plate so that hybrid polishes last as long as possible? First, you need to push back or cut the cuticles. Personally, I recommend various preparations that dissolve cuticles, so you don't have to struggle with nippers or a cuticle pusher and precise cuticle trimming. Then, when the edges of the nails are prepared, you need to buff the nail plate with a polishing block – this will ensure that the base coat thoroughly covers the entire nail. After buffing, wipe the plate with a liquid called cleaner, which degreases the nails and makes the base coat adhere better. That's all – our nails are ready for hybrid pedicure!

Hybrid nail polishes: application and pedicure finish

Apply the first product, which is the base coat, to the nails degreased with cleaner. Do this carefully and be careful not to flood the cuticles (the foam separators I wrote about earlier are very helpful). If you flood the cuticles, the hybrid pedicure will not look aesthetic, and most importantly – it will not hold well. Once the base coat is spread, place your foot under the LED lamp and cure the polish for as long as the manufacturer instructs. I have a lamp in the form of a small bridge, so I have to cure the hybrid pedicure "twice", because all my toes do not fit under the lamp at the same time. I simply place my foot on the floor and place the lamp on my nails – once on one side, once on the other.

When the first stage of our hybrid pedicure is finished, we grab the hybrid nail polishes and choose a color. When it comes to pedicure, I always choose classic colors – black, red or nude shades, because I change the hybrid on my toenails a little less often than on my hands. This is because hybrid pedicure on the feet simply lasts longer. With layers of colored polish, we proceed similarly to the base coat – after applying a layer, we cure it in the lamp, apply another and cure again. Hybrid nail polishes are very well pigmented, so usually two layers are completely sufficient.

The hybrid pedicure is almost finished – all that's left is to apply a top coat, which will protect and shine the nails. Apply the product very carefully to the colored polish, not forgetting the free edge of the nail – this treatment will ensure that neither air, nor fats or water get under the hybrid. Then cure the top coat in the lamp and... done!

That's all! Now you know how to do hybrid nails. The polish lasts up to four weeks for me, and I only remove it because there's already noticeable regrowth. This is a great solution when we don't like to paint our nails every few days, and we often show our feet or just our toes, for example in toe-less tights, in peep-toe shoes, or at the swimming pool. Hybrid pedicure also maintains a smooth surface throughout its wear – no snags appear that tend to damage delicate socks or women's tights.

Let me know if you do hybrid pedicures – and if so, what colors do you like to wear on your feet the most?
