    Fighting Cellulite at Home – Part I

    Fighting cellulite is a long-term process that, when done correctly, can yield truly spectacular results. One of its elements is an anti-cellulite massage, which can be successfully performed... in the comfort of your own home!

    Cellulite is a problem for many women, and its appearance does not depend solely on body weight. It can occur in two forms: fatty cellulite arises when the amount of fat tissue is too large and creates an irregular surface under the skin. In turn, water cellulite is most often associated with water retention in the body (it can intensify before menstruation, when our body accumulates more water). How can we deal with both types of cellulite?

    A proper diet comes to our aid, which should contain as few processed products and salt as possible. Artificial food additives promote weight gain, and excessive salt contributes to water retention in the body. Moreover, the key to smooth skin without a trace of orange peel is to drink plenty of water and liquids in the form of herbal teas every day. Physical activity also helps fight cellulite, which doesn't necessarily have to be intense – regularity is much more important than the intensity of the actions taken. It's better to exercise or walk for 20 minutes a day than to subject yourself to a killer workout only when you remember to do it.

    The last step to beautiful, firm skin is an anti-cellulite massage, which can easily be done at home – you just need to know how to go about it and what method to use to achieve the best results.

    Anti-cellulite massage at home

    How to perform a standard anti-cellulite massage at home to achieve the desired results? You only need your own hands and regular oil (this can be a gentle product for children or a firming oil for pregnant women, as well as a special anti-cellulite cosmetic – choose the type depending on your skin's needs). Apply the product generously to the skin and... start massaging. The first movements should involve gently stroking the skin and massaging the cosmetic into its surface. The most important thing is to massage the body towards the heart, i.e., from the ankles upwards. This will give you the best results, because by performing such a movement, you strongly stimulate blood circulation. After a few minutes of gently smoothing the skin, you can move on to a more decisive anti-cellulite massage, which involves firm kneading and "pinching" the skin. Again, you should do this from bottom to top, and the effect of these actions must be a reddening of the entire body – such a symptom means that the firming massage was performed correctly, and blood has started to circulate faster.

    A firming massage for very visible cellulite should be performed at least 4 times a week. However, if orange peel is not so visible in your case, you can limit yourself to 2 treatments a week. Regularity is important – if you perform anti-cellulite massage at home only a few times a month, the effects will appear much later and will be much weaker.

    Fighting cellulite with a firming massage can also take other forms. By using additional accessories, we accelerate the appearance of the first effects and differentiate the strength and type of pressure on the skin, thanks to which orange peel is eliminated much faster. So what gadgets can be used for anti-cellulite massage?

    Dry brushing

    Dry brushing is an increasingly popular way to fight cellulite. This method strongly stimulates blood circulation, and additionally is a form of body exfoliation that helps remove dead skin cells. What does such a treatment look like? All you need is a massage brush. Its bristles should be made of natural materials (for example, boar bristles or cellulose obtained from aloe), and the handle – of wood or thick plastic (so that the massage brush does not bend during use).

    Brush massage should be performed on dry skin, without the addition of creams or oil. Only in this way will we achieve the desired effect – firming and removing dead skin – in one go. We brush the body with the brush, from the bottom of the legs towards the heart, using circular motions. At first, the skin may feel discomfort, but after a few such treatments, it will get used to the new stimuli. Brush massage should last from a few to a dozen minutes (but no longer than 15 minutes), and the pressure of the brush itself must be individually adjusted to your capabilities. At first, lightly stroke the skin with the stiff bristles, and then press the massage brush more firmly against the body surface.

    Dry brushing is best done in the evening – after the treatment, it is worth taking a shower and applying a moisturizing body lotion. An additional advantage of this treatment is the reduction of ingrown hairs – during anti-cellulite massage, the brush lifts the hairs, which prevents them from re-growing into the skin. During dry brushing, you should also remember to avoid sensitive areas where the skin is delicate and thin – this applies to the bust and décolletage area, as well as areas with broken capillaries or large moles. It is worth doing brush massage once a week at first, and when the skin gets used to it – you can increase the frequency of treatments.
